Top Furniture Trends for 2018

Home Office Innovations

Every year the furniture industry introduces new styles, finishes, and colors. This year there is an emerging trend for the consumer who works from home. For years, home office furniture was dominated by large desks that mimicked the CEO office furniture found in executive suites. Soon homes were sporting executive man caves with towering bookcases, hutches, and dark masculine furniture that looked like it belonged in the White House.

Then technology suddenly made all those auxiliary cabinets obsolete when wireless printers, iPads, and laptops started to replace all the cord management necessities that drove designs for executive home offices. In addition, more people – both men and women – have begun to telecommute from home more with the assistance of online collaborative technologies. As an end result, home office furniture has begun to shrink in the types of items, size of the pieces, and suppliers who make them.

Fortunately for many of the women who work from home, new technology-driven home office innovations include a health feature enabling the desks to rise from a sitting to standing position to improve circulation and increase metabolic function. However, the majority of these adjustable height desks and companion pieces look very institutional and have totally missed the fact that women who work from home still want all the technology, but also want the office to blend in with the way she decorates her home. She does not want a commercial-looking home office in her family room or bedroom.
